design experiences.

I use words to

Amy Claussen (she/her)

I am a playwright and digital experience creator based in the DC area. As an artist with a mental and chronic illness, I'm on a journey to create more inclusive stories centered on the disability experience. My plays have been produced and workshopped at The Kennedy Center, Hangar Theatre, Profile Theatre, New York Fringe Festival, The Pitch @ Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, Penguin Rep, and more. As a director, I am the recipient of a Drama League Fellowship and have worked at Berkeley Rep's Ground Floor with Lauren Gunderson and Hangar Theatre with Give Me Liberty writer Alice Austen, among others. My work spans both the physical and digital worlds, often mixing forms. As a game designer, I have designed and written for The Sims and SimCity franchises, as well as the friendly robot, Cozmo. When I'm not writing plays, I lead the UX Content Design practice at The Washington Post, creating digital experiences that are useful, easy-to-understand, and accessible. I have a BFA in theatre directing from Carnegie Mellon.

Amy Claussen smiles warmly and looks directly out. She is a white woman with long red hair. She's wearing a while shirt with rolled sleaves, jeans, and brown boots. She sits at a white comfy chair, in front of a cabin window.
